Karen Marki, The Icebergs Weep
40" x 30", Acrylic on canvas, CAN$1,200.00 Unframed - Available for Sale
I painted “The Icebergs Weep” after reading a small article in the New York Times about the melting ice caps in northern Canada. It struck me that it should have been a headline story – saying that they were melting at an alarming rate – even faster than scientists had predicted. Instead, the article was buried beneath all the COVID 19 stories of the day. I thought about all the animals being impacted and the long-term effect this would have on the human race…much more devastating than even this horrible disease that is killing people world-wide. I was so sad imagining the mighty walls of ice that have been there for millions of years collapsing under the weight of global warming. Is it too late to turn things around?
