Like the three wise monkeys, I would like to believe I live in a world free of evil. I do worry though that our actions or lack of them, are seriously degrading the planet we live on. The interconnected nature of all life is a reality that we cannot ignore. As the climate becomes more unpredictable we wonder what is going on. It seems we are approaching a tipping point from which we have no way of knowing the consequences. My painting portrays a scenario made possible by our lack of taking responsibility for our self centred pleasure seeking actions. There is irony in the headlines on the newspaper boat that the not so wise monkeys have chosen for their boating adventure. Their ignorance makes it somewhat fitting that they could be run down by a cruise liner full of holidaying passengers who are likely blind to the burning city behind them. We blithely go charging forward in our lives, rarely considering the ramifications for the planet. If, in our every action, we did consider the effect on the planet and all its inhabitants, one can only hope our choices would become more meaningful and compassionate.
