Asiza, For David
20" x 20", Acrylic , $900.00
Back in the early 90’s when I was a graphic designer, I designed and illustrated a logo for A Loving Spoonful, an organization who provide meals for people affected by AIDS. I had the pleasure working with the executive director David Holtzman, he always had such positive and happy disposition, a true visionary. I remember watching the news and shocked to learn how David and his partner were allegedly gaybashed in June 2010 by two men. David’s face was all bruised up, it truly made me angry knowing how these two ignorant men can hurt such kind human being. A short time after this horrible incidence, I ran into David at a local grocery store and he wasn’t himself. The joyful David was gone, I sensed he felt a deep sadness for what happened to him and his partner. David and his partner decided to go on vacation to Palm Springs for both to recover from the physical abuse and chaotic lawsuit. On April 10th, 2012, David suddenly passed away from a heart attack, his passing affected many people including myself. David was very known in queer community they lost one of it’s most devoted and respected members. This painting is in his memory to remember David for being such genuine good hearted human being. Rest In Peace David, you will be forever missed.
