While drawing this woman’s portrait, I decided to draw her with her eyes closed instead of open as they were in the reference photo. By doing this, I was able to give voice to an emotion I believe all of us have experienced, that state of feeling so utterly tired and fatigued that we need to just close our eyes for a few minutes to shut out the world and gain strength and resolve from our innermost selves. I used a second photo reference for the background, to suggest that she was seated in a snack/rest area.
