About the Artwork

Recently, the scent of Labrador Tea brought back vivid memories of my childhood in northern Manitoba where a canoe left on the riverbank was an invitation to be used, as long as it was returned. In the summer, we would often paddle along the Churchill River and gather the leaves of these plants to make a mild tea. Along with inhaling the aromatic scent of the clusters of white flowers, I loved to feel the rubbery leaves with a fuzzy orange underside. A very good memory.

Veronica Funk

Airdrie, Alberta

Veronica Funk was raised in northern Manitoba, studied Art & Design at Red Deer College and is currently studying Art History through Thompson Rivers University. The focus of her work is to create stories through layers of acrylic colour and pattern, inspired by contemporary street art.

"Even after completing and exhibiting my work numerous times throughout the years, I still question myself. I wonder if I'm good enough but then remind myself to focus on the process, not the end results."
