About the Artwork

In British Columbia, the potential impacts of climate change due to global warming, including melting glaciers are of significant concern. This painting features unusual textures and reflections to develop a 3-D effect where I integrated re-purposed materials such as textiles and paper. This painting depicts the thawing of the permafrost in the Tundra having devastating effects on its ecosystem. I invite the viewer to touch the work and reflect, and I aim to convey my inner reflections and the feelings that arise as I witness the devastation on the natural environment by climate change.

"“Working with texture and layers in my mixed media paintings gives me an opportunity to express nature in an abstract way, to encourage the viewer to be moved by its beauty, and to create a mood that will seduce the eye, soothe the mind, and inspire the spirit.” Monica Gewurz"
