The bark of the common Eucalyptus tree is a true work of art...each is as unique as a snowflake and I have tried to capture its beauty in this abstract work. The browns, grays, black and white are contrasted with texture, depth and motion. Using a variety of unique tools including a tree branch, I have created small vignettes to bring the viewer closer. It is modern, urban and organic.

Karen Marki's paintings are layers of several works built onto the canvas like an excavation site, encouraging the viewer to see what lies beneath. Her process includes using unusual tools to create markings and texture inspired by both the urban and natural world.
